First Human trial of Vaccine

This week for the very first time UK has started the trials of COVID-19 Vaccine. This is making a huge step in the global race to find COVID-19 cure.

C Vaccine Trial on First Person

Group of 800 peoples are recruited for the study of vaccine. In this study half will get vaccine of coronavirus and half a control vaccine which protects against meningitis but not coronavirus. This study is designed in a way that no volunteer will know which vaccine they are getting.

Elisa Granato, is the first one to get the vaccine . In an interview she told.

“I’M A SCIENTIST, SO I WANTED TO TRY TO SUPPORT THE SCIENTIFIC PROCESS WHEREVER I CAN.”

The COVID-19 Vaccine was developed by a team at Oxford University in less than three months. The team is lead by a professor of vaccinology at the Jenner Institute, Sarah Gilbert, she said that.

“OF COURSE, WE HAVE TO TEST IT AND GET DATA FROM HUMANS. WE HAVE TO DEMONSTRATE IT ACTUALLY WORKS AND STOPS PEOPLE GETTING INFECTED WITH CORONAVIRUS BEFORE USING THE VACCINE IN THE WIDER POPULATION.”

How COVID-19 Vaccine will work ?
The COVID-19 Vaccine is made from a weak version of a common cold virus (known as an adenovirus) from chimpanzees that has been modified so it can not grow in humans and can act as a vaccine.

Is COVID-19 Vaccine Safe ?
After the trials of COVID-19 Vaccine the volunteers will be monitored carefully in the upcoming weeks. They have been told about the side effects of vaccine. Doctors told them that some may get headaches , fevers or get a sore arm in the first couple of days after they get injected by vaccine.

The volunteers are also told that there is a theoretical risk that virus could cause a serious reaction to coronavirus, which was also aroused in the Sars animals in the initial stage of vaccine studies.

But the Scientists in the Oxford team says that the risk of vaccine producing an enhanced disease is minimum, and they hope that one Million doses of vaccine will be ready by September. Also they can scale up the manufacturing of vaccine if this vaccine prove to be effective against COVID-19.
